Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College senior forward Komla Dogbey (Providence, RI) was named N.E. Div. III Third Team Best XI by the New England Soccer Journal for his performance during the 2017 season.


Dogbey is a three-time United Soccer Coaches All-New England selection. He was a Third Team All-N.E. selection in 2017, a First Team All-N.E. selection as a junior in 2016 and received a Second Team All-N.E. award as a sophomore in 2015. As a senior in 2017, Dogbey was named First Team All-Little East. He is a three-time First Team All-LEC selection (2015, 2016, 2017) and was a Second Team All-LEC honoree as a freshman (2014).




As a senior in 2017, he played in 18 games, starting all of them. Dogbey had seven goals and two assists for 16 points. He was second on the team and fifth in the Little East in scoring on the year. His seven goals also ranked him fifth in the league. He tallied the game-winner in the team’s, 1-0, victory against UMass Dartmouth on Oct. 7 and also netted the game-winner in the club’s, 3-2, win over Plymouth State on Oct. 28 that clinched a share of the LEC Regular Season Championship. Dogbey was named the Little East Offensive Player of the Week once on the season.


Head Coach John Mello’s team finished the season with a 9-8-2 overall record and a 5-2 (first place tie) in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen claimed a share of the 2017 Little East Regular Season Championship for the second straight season. After vanquishing long-time rival and third seed UMass Boston, 2-0, in the semifinals of the Little East Championship on Nov. 1, RIC lost, 1-0, to top seed and host Western Connecticut in the title contest on Nov. 4.
