HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC sophomore guard Jordyn
Gauvin (Fall River, MA) narrowly missed a double-double with 11
points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
• Junior guard Margaret McCaffrey
(East Greenwich, RI) was also in double figures with 10 points
and three rebounds in the loss for the Anchorwomen.
• Sophomore Mya Villard (Cromwell,
CT) paced Eastern Connecticut with 18 points, six rebounds and
• Junior guard Kelsey Santagata
(Stamford, CT) added 16 points and two rebounds, while sophomore
guard Sabrina LeMere (North Branford, CT) was also in double
figures with 14 points, seven boards and four assists in the victory
for the Warriors.
• Eastern Connecticut raced out to
the early, 7-0, lead and took an 18-10 advantage heading into the
• RIC used a 7-0 run to start the
second quarter, capped by a three-point play from Gauvin, to cut the
deficit down to one, 18-17, with 8:13 left in the first half.
• That would be as close as the
Anchorwomen would get in the stanza as Eastern Connecticut took a
28-24 lead at halftime.
• The Anchorwomen were within two
points, 35-33, early in the third quarter before an 8-0 run by
Eastern Connecticut, capped by a layup from LeMere, put the Warriors
up, 34-33, with 2:59 left in the third quarter. Eastern Connecticut
held the 45-37 advantage after three quarters of action.
• The Warriors pulled away in the
fourth quarter, leading by as many as 21 points late before taking
the 62-50 victory.
