Amy L. Machado ’07 starred as a third baseman for the softball team at Rhode Island College from 2002-05. The Newport, R.I. native wrapped up her career as an Anchorwoman having played in 146 games, starting in 142 of them. At the time of her graduation, she left RIC near the top of many all-time program statistical categories, ranking first all-time in career at bats (441), third in career hits (131) and RBI (63), fourth in career assists (233), fifth in career total bases (163) and eighth in career runs scored (58) and batting average (.297).
As a senior in 2005, Machado was named the 2005 Little East Conference Softball Player of the Year. She was also named First Team All-ECAC and All-Little East at third base. Machado was a Third Team All-New England at-large selection and was selected as the team MVP. Machado led the Anchorwomen to the program’s first-ever Little East Conference Regular Season Championship and to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England title.
She played in 41 games, starting 40 of them. She batted .323 with 41 hits, two home runs, ten doubles, two triples, 17 runs scored and a team-high 25 RBI. Machado owned a .496 slugging percentage, a .376 on-base percentage and a .898 fielding percentage.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rhode Island College in 2007. Machado currently works as a medical assistant with the South Coast Physicians Group.
