Ken Hopkins ’78 was a longtime coach of women’s basketball and baseball at Rhode Island College.

Hopkins compiled a career record of 181-156 in women’s basketball in 13 seasons at the helm from 1985-98. He led the Anchorwomen to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament five times, winning the title in 1985-86 as his club posted a 17-10 overall record. He led the 1997-98 team to a personal-best 20-7 overall record, finishing second in the Little East and reaching the ECAC Tournament.

He also spent five seasons as the head baseball coach from 1985-89, guiding the Anchormen to a 68-62-2 mark. Hopkins led RIC to a 20-9-1 overall record and reached the semifinals of the ECAC Tournament in 1986. He also reached the ECACs after a 16-11 mark in 1985.

He earned a bachelor’s degree at Rhode Island College in 1978. Hopkins earned a master’s degree in education from the University of New England. He is a Certified Athletic Administrator (C.A.A.), a retired teacher from the Cranston Public School System and currently serves as a City Councilman in Cranston.
