Willimantic, Conn.--Freshman outside hitter Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, MA) tallied a team-best 12 kills as the No. 5-seeded Rhode Island College volleyball team fell to No. 1-seeded Eastern Connecticut, 3-0 (15-25, 23-25, 18-25), in the semifinals of the 2018 Little East Conference Championship played at Geissler Gymnasium on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC junior setter Jacqueline Jutras (Foster, RI) totaled 27 assists, three digs and three service aces.

• Sophomore middle hitter Emilia Vaziri (Cranston, RI) notched six kills and four digs, while senior defensive specialist Marisa Brynes (Cranston, RI) picked up 16 digs in the setback, for the Anchorwomen.

• Freshman middle hitter Anna Barry (Andover, CT) paced Eastern Connecticut with 14 kills and three digs.

• Sophomore outside hitter Alaetra Long (Lincoln, NE) notched a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs in the victory.

• Senior setter Leah Sopneski (Deep River, CT) compiled a team-best 20 assists, five digs and two service aces for the Warriors.

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC posted a .173 (29-12-98 total attacks) hitting percentage in the loss, while Eastern Connecticut hit .363 (45-8-102 total attacks) in the victory.

• RIC had 44 digs and four service aces, while Eastern Connecticut had 49 digs and nine service aces on the night.
