Providence R.I.—Sophomore outside hitter Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, MA) set the pace for the Anchorwomen with a match-high 15 kills as Rhode Island College women's volleyball team defeated Salem State, 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-17) at The Murray Center on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC got off to a quick start in the first set jumping out to a 10-1 lead before capturing the set by 15 points, 25-10.

• Junior outside hitter Jenaeya Evans (Marietta, GA) had seven straight points to open the set for the Anchorwomen.

• Another quick, 9-3, start to the second set helped lift the Anchorwomen to secure the 2-0 lead with a 25-20 victory.

• Senior setter Jacqueline Jutras (Foster, RI) led the way in the set with six points. The Vikings made a push towards the end of the set, coming within four points of the Anchorwomen, but could not close the gap.

• The third set was neck and neck the entire way with neither team able to create much breathing room. The largest lead of the frame was seven, 12-5, by the hosts. Murphy had eight kills in the set, guiding the Anchorwomen to a 3-0 shutout victory.

• Sophomore middle hitter Ashley Normandin (Blackstone, MA) had four kills and three blocks for the Anchorwomen. Junior libero Samantha Borges (Swansea, MA) had eight digs.

• Vikings freshman middle hitter Sarah Janco (Methuen, MA) led the team with nine kills and nine digs.
