Providence, R.I.--Freshman 141 lbs. Nathan Lackman (Wernersville, PA) picked up the lone win for Rhode Island College in a 31-6 loss to Castleton in New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) action on Wednesday evening at the RIC Recreation Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The hosts rested several of their starters in preparation for the NEWA Dual Championship coming up on Sunday.
• The Spartans took a 6-0 lead with a pair of decisions before Lackman, the reigning NEWA Rookie of the Week, pinned Castleton freshman Cqari Bacote (Springfield, MA) at 5:33 to even the contest.
• Castleton dominated the remaining seven bouts, picking up four major decisions, to secure the win.
• Spartan freshman Marlon Laing (Raven, NY) won the most spirited match of the night, downing local favorite freshman Ayomide Onajide (Providence, RI) at 165 lbs., 8-6, with a takedown in the final minute.
• Castleton sophomore Chance Lapier (Keeseville, NY), who is ranked fourth in New England, downed RIC freshman Jett Tancsik (Centereach, NY), 7-6, in a close bout at 174 lbs.
• Senior Mitchell LaFlam (Lebanon, CT) downed RIC junior Daniel Sblendorio (Mountainside, NJ), 7-2, at 197 lbs. in a battle of the second and fifth-ranked wrestlers in New England.
