Guerrier, Dorantes & Young Help Women's Basketball Top Corsairs, 57-47

Dartmouth, Mass.--Sophomore forward Maci Dorantes (Bristol, Conn.) and senior guard Sophia Guerrier (Waltham, Mass.) each registered double-doubles as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team defeated Little East Conference foe, UMass Dartmouth, 57-47, on Wednesday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center in Dartmouth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Dorantes finished with 12 points on the night, while also grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out two assists.
 
• Guerrier also finished with 12 points and 10 boards on the night, while handing out three assists.
 
• The Anchorwomen jumped out to a quick, 10-0, advantage in the opening 4:15 of the first quarter with the help of two Guerrier layups.
 
• The visitors saw their largest lead of the quarter (11), 17-6, when sophomore forward Izabelle Booth (Newport, R.I.) was fouled on a made layup and converted the ensuing foul shot to complete the three-point play. 
 
• As the second quarter progressed, the Anchorwomen extended their lead to 14, 26-12, on a layup by Booth with 2:04 remaining before intermission. The Anchorwomen led the Corsairs by nine, 30-21, at the halftime break.
 
• UMD junior guard Jessica Carroll (Deep River, Conn.) drilled a three-pointer to cut the Anchorwomen lead down to six, 30-24, to kick off the third quarter.
 
• The Anchorwomen used a 7-0 run to push their lead to 13, 37-24, after senior guard Brooke Young (West Warwick, R.I.) hit a three ball, causing the Corsairs to call timeout with 5:02 left in the third quarter.
 
• Young again pushed the Anchorwomen lead to 11, 51-40, on a three ball with 5:38 to play in the fourth quarter.
 
• The Anchorwomen, who led wire to wire, were able to hold off the Corsairs by 10 with a final score of 57-47.
 
• Young finished with a team-high 13 points, grabbed five boards and dished out three assists. Junior Forward Willcia McBorrough (Providence, R.I.) added nine points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.  
 
• Carroll finished with a game-high 15 points and grabbed three rebounds for UMass Dartmouth.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 36.5 percent (23-for-63) from the field, 15 percent (3-for-20) from three and 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from the charity stripe.
 
• UMD shot 29.5 percent (18-for-61) from the field, 22.2 percent (4-for-18) from three-point territory and 53.8 percent (7-for-13) from the foul line.
 
• RIC outrebounded UMD, 51-38 while the Corsairs had seven more steals (12; 5) than the Anchorwomen.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at Plymouth State on Saturday, Jan. 30 (noon).
