Anchorwomen Complete Season Sweep of Panthers With, 47-31, Win at The Murray Center

Providence, R.I.--Senior guard Sophia Guerrier (Waltham, Mass.) led the Anchorwomen with 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team defeated Plymouth State University, 47-31, in Little East action played at the Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen built a 5-0 lead in the opening two minutes of the contest with the help of a sophomore guard Antonia Corsinetti (Johnston, R.I.) three-ball.
 
• The scoring slowed down as both teams struggled to get the lid off the basket during the opening frame. The Anchorwomen led by four, 11-7, after the first 10 minutes.
 
• The second quarter was controlled by the Anchorwomen as they outscored the Panthers, 12-4, and led by 12, 23-11, heading into the halftime break.  
 
• The Anchorwomen pushed their lead out to 16, 31-15, when Guerrier converted a layup, was fouled and knocked down the ensuing foul shot.
 
• The Panthers tried clawing their way back into the game by cutting the Anchorwomen lead down to 10, 31-21, on a junior guard Mary Grzanna (Sunapee, N.H.) layup with 2:55 to play in the third quarter.
 
• The Anchorwomen pushed their lead back up to 13, 36-23, before the end of the third quarter.
 
• RIC matched its largest lead of the game (16), 43-27, when Corsinetti knocked down another trey in the early minutes of the final quarter.
 
• Plymouth State was unable to mount a comeback as RIC completed the season sweep of PSU. The Anchorwomen downed the Panthers, 73-43, on Jan. 30.
 
• Corsinetti finished with eight points, three assists and one rebound. Sophomore forward Neleesha Muenier (Leominster, Mass.) grabbed 10 rebounds and chipped in with two points. Sophomore forward Marina Rufo (Woburn, Mass.) also grabbed 10 rebounds and contributed four points for the Anchorwomen.
 
• PSU sophomore guard Alessia Salzillo (Saugus, Mass.) registered a team-high 10 points to go along with three rebounds and a pair of assists in a losing effort.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 32 percent (18-for-57) from the field, 27 percent (4-for-15) from three-point range and 54 percent (7-for-13) from the foul line.
 
• PSU shot 24 percent (11-for-46) from the field, 20 percent (2-for-10) from three-point territory and 50 percent (6-for-12) from the foul line.
 
• RIC held the advantage on glass, 54-29, and handed out six more assists (10; 4) than the Panthers. The Anchorwomen recorded 13 steals ,while the Panthers registered 11.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Southern Maine on Wednesday, Feb. 17  (6 p.m.).
