Emily Marino (Cheshire, Conn.) led the Anchorwomen with seven goals, three ground balls and two draw controls as the Rhode Island College women's lacrosse team defeated Mitchell College, 17-7, in their season-opener at Mitchell College on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Mitchell broke the ice early, scoring within the first minute of the game and added another goal 16 seconds later on a free position attempt by senior midfielder
Hannah Corrigan (Fairfax, Vt.).

• The Anchorwomen answered back with two goals of their own to knot the score at two apiece with 27:38 left in the opening half.

• RIC rattled off four unanswered goals over the course of five minutes of action, giving the Anchorwomen a 6-3 advantage with 15:38 before halftime.

• Both teams went back and forth, trading goals, but the Anchorwomen took a five goal, 11-6, lead into the halftime break.

Olivia Carpenito (Wilmington, Mass.) each had four goals to anchor the RIC offense in the opening half.

Maddie Kross (Peachtree City, Ga.) netted her first collegiate goal during the second half as the Anchorwomen increased their lead to nine, 15-6, with 14:23 left in regulation.
