Terry Murray (Norfolk, Mass.) pitched seven strong innings, allowing two hits and two runs, while striking out three batters, as the Rhode Island College baseball team defeated UMass Dartmouth, 4-3, in Little East action played at Pontarelli Field on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchormen struck first with a pair of runs in the home half of the first inning as freshman first basemen
Cal Parrillo (Greenville, R.I.) singled to center field to drive in a pair of runs.

• The Anchormen pushed across another run in the bottom of the second frame as freshman center fielder
Cam Santerre (Bristol, R.I.) hit a triple down the right field line and scored on an errant throw by the Corsairs to give the Anchormen a 3-0 lead.

• UMD responded with two runs of its own in the top of the third as senior first basemen
Jose Vasquez (Roxbury, Mass.) singled to begin the inning and later came around to score on a senior shortstop
Erik Ramirez (Boston, Mass.) single to right field.

• The Anchormen added to their lead in the home half of the seventh when freshman designated hitter
Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, R.I.) crossed the plate on a wild pitch with an important insurance run.

• UMD clawed another run across in the eighth when Ramirez was driven in on a senior third baseman
Mike Knell (Dennis, Mass.) single to pull the Corsairs within a run.

• The visitors got the tying run to third base with one down in the ninth, but RIC junior relief pitcher
Shaun Gamelin (West Kingston, R.I.) picked up two strikeouts to secure the save (2).

• Murray earned his first win (1-1). UMD senior starter
Shane Reardon (Kinnelon, N.J.) took the loss (1-2).
