Providence, R.I.--Senior pitcher
Tyler Shemick (Foster, R.I.) threw a complete game shutout, allowing four hits and striking out seven in game two, as Rhode Island College swept Western Connecticut (7-1; 12-0) in Little East baseball action played at Pontarelli Field on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One:
• The start of the game was affected by a two-hour rain delay.

• The Anchormen offense got off to a hot start in the first inning, driving in a pair of runs to stake the hosts to an early 2-0 lead, thanks to a two-run single by freshman first basemen
Cal Parrillo (Greenville, R.I.).

• The middle part of the game was quiet for both teams as WestConn managed to get a run across in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by junior shortstop
Logan Terry (Ellington, Conn.) that plated sophomore second basemen
Kevin Smith (Vernon, Conn.).

• The RIC offense exploded for five runs in the home half of the eighth inning that enabled the hosts to sail to the, 7-1, game one victory. Senior second basemen
Nate Vigeant (Coventry, R.I.) smacked a two-run double in the outburst.

• RIC sophomore pitcher
Connor Davey (Cheshire, Conn.) threw 7.2 innings, allowing just one run on six hits and recorded seven strikeouts, to earn his third win (3-2) of the season.
• WCSU sophomore pitcher
Michael Kolf (Brookfield, Conn.) took the loss (0-1).

Game Two:
• The Anchormen offense picked right up where it left off in game two as RIC was able to score a pair of runs in the home half of the opening frame. Parrillo doubled to right to bring in Santerre and freshman designated hitter
Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, R.I.) to put RIC ahead, 2-0.

• Vigeant drove in a pair of runs in the fourth with a single up the middle to put RIC on top, 4-0.

• Later in the fourth inning, a Grossguth single to center field plated two more Anchormen as RIC took a commanding, 7-0, lead.

• The hot bats for the Anchormen continued into the fifth inning as they were able to put five more runs on the board, paced by a junior left fielder

Nick D'Ambra (Coventry, R.I.) triple to right center that knocked in another two.

• Shemick was lights out throughout the game, retiring 11 straight batters before the visitors registered their second hit in the fourth inning. Shemick earned the complete game win (3-1).

Justin Grullon (Washington Heights, N.Y.) was saddled with the loss (0-2).

BY THE NUMBERS
• D'Ambra went 5-for-8 on the day with three runs scored, two RBI, one double and one triple.

• Santerre went 4-for-8 with three runs scored and one RBI. Vigeant went 3-for-6 with three runs scored, a team-high five RBI and a pair of walks.

• Terry went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI for Western Connecticut.
