Tashjian Stops Five in Losing Effort

New London, Conn.—Senior goalkeeper Charlie Tashjian (West Warwick, R.I.) made five saves in a losing effort as the Rhode Island College men's soccer team fell, 4-0, at Coast Guard in the 2021 season-opener for both clubs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Coast Guard sophomore midfielder Charles Fish (Little Silver, N.J.) scored just 1:52 into the game in his collegiate debut, with junior defender Ryan King (Shepherdstown, W.V.) assisting,  to give the hosts the early, 1-0, lead.
 
• Senior midfielder Mike Daunt (Haymarket, Va.) would convert a penalty kick with 12:58 left in the opening half and Coast Guard would lead, 2-0, at halftime.
 
• RIC's best chance in the first half was when senior midfielder Sa-Leem Kamarah (Providence, R.I.) hit the crossbar with 6:30 left.
 
• Senior forward Robbie Fuggett (Saint Mary's, Ga.) opened the second half scoring for Coast Guard by finding the back of the net off a rebound in the 54th minute to give the Bears a 3-0 lead.
 
• Freshman defender Jude Sargent (West Hartford, Conn.) closed the scoring on a header off a corner kick from Fish in the 63rd minute.
 
• CGA junior goalkeeper John Vaaler (Arnold, Md.) did not make a save in the win (1-0).
