Providence, R.I.—Junior Nathan Lackman (Wernersville, Penn.) racked up four more victories and was named to the All-Tournament team as the Rhode Island College wrestling team went 2-2 at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Headlock Hunger Dual Championship hosted by Johnson & Wales on Sunday.
 
THE BASICS
• RIC placed 13^th (15 Teams). Johnson and Wales finished first to win the title.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC opened with a 32-15 loss vs. Southern Maine. The Anchormen would then lose a heartbreaker to WPI by one point, 22-21.
 
• RIC picked up a pair of victories to wrap up its day, beating New England College, 29-17, then defeating Bridgewater State in the 13th place match, 40-11.
 
• Lackman finished with three pins and four total victories while wrestling at 157 lbs.
 
• Freshman Fred Luchs (Belford, N.J.) was 2-1 with two pins.
 
• Sophomore Edison Guarcas (Providence, R.I.) earned victories in both of his matches at 285 lbs.
 
HEAD COACH JAY JONES ON THE NEWA DUAL CHAMPIONSHIP
• "I was really excited about seeing us make a jump in the conference, so on that note, it was a disappointment to let the WPI match slip away. We tied them and lost on criteria as we just couldn't get a second pin, which obviously would have won it for us."
 
• "I am proud of the team for bouncing back after that disappointment and winning our last two consolation matches."
 
• "We are young, as our first four weight classes are freshman, so we have to be excited for our future as we are competitive."
