Maddie Kross Scores Twice in, 21-4, Loss vs. Southern Maine

Providence, R.I.—Sophomore attacker Maddie Kross (Peachtree City, Ga.) finished with two goals, five draw controls and a pair of ground balls as Rhode Island College fell, 21-4, vs. Southern Maine in Little East women's lacrosse action played at Alumni Field on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• USM graduate midfielder Jennifer Darasz (Gorham, Maine) and senior attacker Rachel Shanks (Naples, Maine) each scored twice as the visitors led, 4-1, with 5:50 left in the first quarter.
 
• RIC senior midfielder Olivia Carpenito (Wilmington, Mass.) scored at 5:30, but the Huskies scored the next six goals to jump out to a 10-2 advantage.
 
• USM led, 10-3, at the half.
 
• The visitors scored the contest's next 10 goals before RIC senior midfielder Natalie Kulacz (Cumberland, R.I.) scored with just over two minutes left.
 
• Shanks finished with six goals and four assists for 10 points. Freshman midfielder Kate Colvin (Winchester, Mass.) compiled three goals and an assist for four points, while corralling a game-best 11 draw controls.
 
• RIC junior goalkeeper Shannon O'Connell (Narragansett, R.I.) stopped 12 in a losing effort (0-8).
 
• USM sophomore goalkeeper Cece Racine (Lewiston, Maine) played three quarters, made six saves and secured her 10th win (10-5) of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Lydia Laslavic (Thomaston, Maine) played the fourth quarter and made four stops.
 
 WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at home vs. Keene State on Saturday, April 30 (noon).
