UMass Boston Downs RIC, 11-6, at Little East Baseball Championship

Mansfield, Conn.--Sophomore center fielder Cameron Santerre (Bristol, R.I.) smacked two home runs as No. 2-seeded Rhode Island College lost, 11-6, vs. No. 3-seeded UMass Boston in game six of the 2022 Little East Baseball Championship, played at Eastern Stadium on Thursday evening.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 11, Rhode Island College 6
UMass Boston (26-15)
Rhode Island College (29-9-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC found itself down four runs for the second straight game after UMB senior designated hitter Craig Corliss (Hopkinton, Mass.) cleared the bases with a three-run double in the top of the first inning.

• Santerre tied the game up with a grand slam in the bottom of the second inning. The Anchormen failed to get any additional runners home and went into the third inning tied with the Beacons, 4-4.

• The UMB bats got back to work, plating two runs in the top of the fourth inning, then scoring twice more thanks to a few RIC errors in the top of the fifth inning. UMB led, 8-4, after the top of the fifth.

• Senior left fielder Joey Coro (North Providence, R.I.) doubled in the fifth Anchormen run in the home half of the fifth, chopping UMB's lead down to just three runs, 8-5.

• The Beacons would capitalize again on more RIC errors, scoring a few runs in the top of the seventh and eighth innings to give them a commanding, 11-5, advantage.

• RIC started its comeback attempt in the bottom of the ninth with a Santerre lead-off homer, but failed to score again, dropping their first game of the tournament.

• UMB senior reliever DJ Lopes (North Dartmouth, Mass.) claimed the win out of the bullpen (2-1).

• RIC graduate reliever Brenden Aldridge (Pawtucket, R.I.) was the losing pitcher (1-1).

• Santerre went 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI.

• Corliss batted 3-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles and two runs scored.

• The game took 3:45 to complete.
