Providence, R.I.--Senior middle hitter
Angelly Polanco (Providence, R.I.) played strong up front with eight kills as the Rhode Island College women's volleyball team defeated Salem State, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 27-25) at The Murray Center on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC and Salem State went back and forth in the first set, with the Anchorwomen overcoming a 17-11 deficit to win the first set by two, 25-23.

• Rhode Island College started off the second frame hot, but relinquished the lead to the Vikings, 12-8. The hosts would tie the game up, 13-13, and use multiple runs to outpace the visitors two win by three, 25-22.

• In the final set, the Anchorwomen again held a late lead, but Salem State came roaring back and nearly won the frame. The Vikings held a two-point, 24-22, lead and were serving with a chance to win. The Anchorwomen picked up a sideout and would immediately take the next two points thanks to great serving from sophomore middle hitter

• Salem State was able to hold off elimination and tie the set a 25 apiece, but the Anchorwomen rattled off an ace and a kill to complete the sweep.

• Senior outside hitter
Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass.) tallied 12 kills and 12 digs, which was good for her second double-double in as many games.

Sydney Green (West Warwick, R.I.) registered 24 assists.

• Salem State junior middle hitter
Abigail O'Connors (Gilford, N.H.) registered a game-high 14 kills, while sophomore setter
Eva Haralabatos (Melrose, Mass.) handed out a game-high 30 assists.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Lesley on Thursday, Sept. 8 (7 p.m.).
