Providence, R.I.—Junior 285 lbs. Michael Alfonso (Garfield, N.J.) picked up a pin in sudden victory as Rhode Island College used five wins by fall and a pair of technical fall victories to defeat Plymouth State, 40-16, in New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) action held at the RIC Recreation Center on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchormen picked up takedowns in the first period of seven bouts on the evening as only three matches reached the third stanza on the night.
 
• RIC freshman Owen Roche (Shrewsbury, Mass.) picked up a pin at 141 lbs. to open the contest, but PSU junior Nick Antonucci (Windham, N.H.) answered right back with a pin of his own at 149 lbs. to tie the match.
 
• A win by fall from sophomore 157 lbs. Dillon Carter (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and a tech. fall win by junior 165 lbs. Christopher McCarthy (Middletown, N.J.) staked the hosts to a 17-6 advantage.
 
• The visitors used a pair of tech. fall wins to pull within a point, 17-16, before RIC swept the remaining four bouts.
 
• Freshman Anthony Fernandez (Nashua, N.H.) registered a first period pin at 197 lbs. and Alfonso snapped a 1-1 tie in sudden victory by bringing the house down with a dramatic takedown and pin just 45 seconds into the extra session.
 
• Junior 125 lbs. Fred Luchs (Belford, N.J.) notched his team-leading sixth pin of the season and classmate 133 lbs. Kwesi Amoa (Central Islip. N.Y.) capped the win with a first period tech. fall.
