Anchormen Stop Four-Game Skid With, 77-67, Win Over UMass Boston

Providence, R.I.--Three Anchormen scored over 15 points as the Rhode Island College men's basketball team snapped a four-game skid with a 77-67 win over UMass Boston in Little East action at The Murray Center on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
Rhode Island College 77, UMass Boston 67
Rhode Island College (7-15, 5-9 LEC)
UMass Boston (15-8, 8-6 LEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The two LEC foes went back and forth through the whole first half, with RIC taking the lead, 16-15, with 8:46 left to go in opening frame.

• The buckets sparked an 8-0 run by the Anchormen, with three different student-athletes all scoring, to elevate the lead to seven, 22-15.

• UMB whittled the deficit down a little, but an emphatic dunk from junior forward Kalu Uga (Hyde Park, Mass.) with less than a second on the clock sent the Anchormen to the locker room at halftime up by six, 38-32.

• RIC held the lead for the remainder of the contest, though the Beacons did tie the game late on a few occasions. The hosts kept the game interesting with some missed free throws at the end, but proved to be too much for the No. 3 team in the Little East and kept the Anchormen's LEC postseason hopes alive.

• Four student-athletes for RIC finished with over 13 points, as freshman guard Anthony Rivera (Staten Island, N.Y.) and juniors Ousmane Kourouma (Woonsocket, R.I.) and Uga each scored over 16 points.

• Rivera and Kourouma added double-digit rebounds to give them double-doubles on the day.

• UMB senior forward Malik Lorquet (Sharon, Mass.) had a great day with 18 points, 16 rebounds, four steals and four blocks.
