Gamelin and Murray Lead Anchormen Past Cougars, 9-3

Worcester, Mass.--Senior pitcher Shaun Gamelin (North Kingstown, R.I.) earned the win and struck out 12 batters, while junior pitcher Terry Murray (Norfolk, Mass.) picked up his second save of the year, as Rhode Island College defeated Clark, 9-3, on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC was able to grab runs in each of the first three innings and jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the early stages of the game.
 
• Clark was able to grab a run after a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, but the Anchormen answered right back on a sacrifice fly by junior shortstop Izaiah Rivera (Pawtucket, R.I.) to put the visitors up, 5-1, in the fifth inning.
 
• After another RIC RBI single in the sixth inning, the Cougars cut the lead down to just three, 6-3, after a long ball by junior shortstop Billy Sullivan (Hicksville, N.Y.).
 
• Anchorman junior right fielder Sean Helfrich (Saunderstown, R.I.) smacked a homer in the top of the ninth.
 
• Gamelin looked good in the win (2-0), fanning 12 Cougars on the day. Murray hurled three scoreless innings of relief.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Gordon on Friday, March 17 (3 p.m.).
