HOW IT HAPPENED
• Santerre came into the game with 65 career steals, needing just one to tie
Josh Silva's career mark of 66, established during the Covid-shortened 2020 campaign. After being hit by a pitch in the first inning, Santerre stole second to tie the record. After reaching on an error in the fourth, he stole second once again for his 18th of the year and 67th of his career, which established a new program record.
• Parrillo opened up the first inning with a bases-clearing double, giving the hosts a 3-0 advantage before MIT could record an out.
Â
• After another RIC run made the contest 4-0, MIT sophomore second baseman
Kyle Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.) unleashed on a pitch and sent it over the fence for a solo homer in the fourth. Senior catcher
Jake Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.) matched his brother's RBI total with a double later in the inning to cut the RICadvantage in half.
Â
• The Anchormen responded to the Engineers home run with two of their own, as sophomore designated hitter
Lucas Pierce (Chepachet, R.I.) and classmate first baseman
Daniel Trzepacz (Mont Vernon, N.H.) each went yard to extend the RIC lead.
Â
• RIC pitching combined for double-digit strikeouts and kept the Engineers off the scoreboard to notch its fourth straight win.
Â
• Junior third baseman
Cal Parrillo (Greenville, R.I.)finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and five RBI.
Â
• Trezpacz had two hits of his own and plated two runs with his monster blast in the fourth inning.
Â
• Murray came on in relief in the fourth inning, going five innings and striking out seven, to earn his first win.
