Anchormen Take Game One of 2023 Little East Baseball Championship

Providence, R.I.—Senior pitcher Shaun Gamelin (West Kingston, R.I.) hurled six innings and struck out 10 as No. 1-seeded Rhode Island College defeated No. 6-seeded Castleton, 10-0 (seven innings) in game one of the 2023 Little East Baseball Championship played at Pontarelli Field on Wednesday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• With the win, the Anchormen tied the program record for wins in a season, matching the 2022 edition's effort of 29 victories.
 
• Junior shortstop Izaiah Rivera (Pawtucket, R.I.) knocked in three with a triple as part of a five-run first inning to give the hosts an early advantage.
 
•  Freshman second baseman Lucas McElroy (Westport, Mass.) notched a two-run single as part of a four-run sixth to help end the game early due to the 10-run rule.
 
• Gamelin allowed just five hits and secured his team-leading ninth (9-1) win of the season. Senior Brenden Aldridge (Pawtucket, R.I.) set the Spartans down in order in the seventh.
 
• Junior center fielder Cameron Santerre (Bristol, R.I.) went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will face the loser of No. 4 UMass Boston and No. 3 Southern Maine (2:30 p.m.) in game five of the Little East Baseball Championship on Thursday, May 11 (11 a.m.).
