Fred Luchs (Belford, N.J.) and
Matthew Kelly (Katonah, N.Y.) each went 3-1 and advanced to the second day of competition at the 2024 Pete Willson Invitational, hosted by Wheaton (Ill.) on Friday afternoon.
THE BASICS
• The Anchormen finished the first day of action in 20
th place (32 teams) with a team score of 31.0. No. 6 Wisconsin-Eau Claire and No. 3 Wisconsin-Lacrosse are currently tied for first overall with identical 88.0 point totals.
• Eight teams ranked in the Top-25 of NCAA Div. III Wrestling are at the meet, including three in the Top-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Luchs 3-1 with a pin and a technical fall win at 125 lbs.
• Kelly is currently 3-1 with a pin and a technical fall win at 184 lbs.
• Junior 285 lbs.
Edison Guarcas (Providence, R.I.) went 2-2 with a pin. After winning his first two bouts, Guarcas fell to No. 1 seed
Donovan King from Olivet.
• Junior 165 lbs.
Christopher McCarthy (Middletown, N.J.) and freshman 197 lbs.
Anthony Fernandez (Nashua, N.H.) each went 1-2 with a technical fall and a pin, respectively. Fernandez caught a tough draw in the consolations, falling to the No. 1 seed and 11th-ranked wrestler in the nation, Concordia College of Moorhead's
Gabe Zierden.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the second day of competition at the Pete Willson Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27.
