Four Anchormen Place as Wrestling Finishes Fifth at NEWA Futures Tournament

Springfield, Mass.—Junior Kwesi Amoa (Central Islip, N.Y.) finished fourth to help lead Rhode Island College to a fifth place (17 teams) finish at the 2024 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament, hosted by Western New England on Sunday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• Rhode Island College finished fifth (17 teams) with a team score of 70.0. VTSU Castleton won the title with a 176.0 team score.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Amoa went 2-1 with a technical fall win and a major decision to finish fourth at 133 lbs.
 
• Sophomore Robert Stone (Deer Park, N.Y.) 5-1 with four pins and a technical fall to place fifth at 125 lbs.
 
• Senior Matthew Myers (Coram, N.Y.) went 4-1 with a pin and two major decisions to finish fifth at 197 lbs.
 
• Senior Michael Alfonso (Garfield, N.J.) went 3-2 with two pins and a major decision to finish sixth at 285 lbs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the NCAA Div. III Northeast Regional Championship, hosted by WPI on Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3.
