Middletown, Conn.--Senior
Matthew Kelly (Katonah, N.Y,) went 3-0 and finished second at 197 lbs. to earn All-Region honors and secure a spot in the 2025 NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championship at the 2025 NCAA Div. III Northeast Regional Championship, hosted by Wesleyan on Saturday and Sunday.

THE BASICS
• Rhode Island College finished in 10th place (18 teams) with 48.5 points. Johnson and Wales won the title with a team score of 192.5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Kelly suffered an injury in a 5-4 decision vs. Roger Williams'
Spencer Fetrow in the semifinal and was forced to medically forfeit his bout vs. Johnson and Wales'
Dylan Harr prior to the finals.

• This will be Kelly's second trip to the NCAA National Championships, having qualified at 184 lbs. during his sophomore season (2021-22) at NYU.

• Kelly earned All-Region honors for the second consecutive season and for the third time in his career.

• Senior 165 lbs.
Christopher McCarthy (Middletown, N.J.) earned All-Region honors with a 2-3 mark and two technical fall wins at the championship.

• Senior 285 lbs.
Michael Alfonso (Garfield, N.J.) earned All-Region honors with a 2-3 mark with a pair of pins at the championship.

In upcoming action, Kelly will represent Rhode Island College at the 2025 NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championship, hosted by Johnson and Wales at the Amica Mutual Pavilion on Friday and Saturday, March 14-15.
