Beverly, Mass.--Senior Elijah Gouin (Glocester, R.I.) clinched the match with a straight set win at No. 4 singles as Rhode Island College opened Little East play with an 8-1 win over Salem State indoors at the Bass River Club on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC took a 3-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. Gouin and freshman Ethan Clegg (Chepachet, R.I.) notched an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles.
 
• Clegg finished off his opponent at No. 3 singles with a shutout (6-0, 6-0) and Gouin followed with a straight set win to secure the victory.
 
• Freshman Kyle Neuendorf (Attleboro, Mass.) was dominant with a straight set win (6-0, 6-1) at sixth singles.
