HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• A solo homer in the first inning by the Bears gave the hosts a 1-0 advantage early, but stellar defense and pitching anchored RIC the rest of the way.

• Freshman first baseman
Jillian Guilfoyle (Derby, Conn.) tied the ballgame up in the top half of the second as fifth-year third baseman
Victoria Young (Sterling, Conn.) came to the plate on an RBI single.

• The game was scoreless for three consecutive innings until Guilfoyle again came to the plate and brought in another run with an RBI ground out.

• Senior pitcher
Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) earned the win (7-4), firing a three-hit complete game with 10 strikeouts. Kidd set down the Bears in order to close out the sixth and seventh innings.

GAME TWO
• Sophomore left fielder
Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) opened up the scoring in the first frame with a sacrifice fly to plate junior second baseman
Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.).

• RIC tacked on a pair in the second frame with another sacrifice fly from sophomore first baseman
Reilly Austin (Cumberland, R.I.) and an RBI single from senior right fielder
Sarah Mickelson (New Milford, Conn.).

• The visitors were just getting started as Earley homered in the sixth and Mickelson drove in two more with another single to extend the club's lead, 6-0.

• An RBI groundout from senior shortstop
Amanda Conti (Lincoln, R.I.) would be the icing on the cake to put the Bears back into their den.
• Sophomore pitcher
Ashleigh von der Linden (Stratham, N.H.) fired a complete game shutout (7-3) with eight strikeouts.
