Â
• Simmons then led things off in the third frame and crushed a homer over the left-center field wall, while sophomore first baseman
Jillian Guilfoyle (Derby, Conn.) notched an RBI off a single, to make it, 3-0, in favor of the hosts through three.
Â
• The Lyons found life and plated a run in the top of the fifth, but junior left fielder
Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) sent a solo shot out of the ball park in the bottom half of the frame for an important insurance run.
Â
• Guilfoyle went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Senior center fielder
Sophia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) made a diving catch to prevent extra bases and later dove to knock down a low liner and threw out the advancing runner at second to stifle the Lyons' attack.
• Freshman pitcher
