Frank Holbrook (career record: 85-38-1; .690) begins his fourth season as the Head Baseball Coach at Rhode Island College.
In 2022, he guided RIC to a 29-10-1 overall record and a 13-3 (second place ) mark in the Little East. The club's 29 victories were a new program record for a single season. The Anchormen placed 11 student-athletes on the 2022 All-Little East teams. Sophomore Andrew Sears was the Little East Pitcher of the Year, while freshman first baseman Daniel Trzepacz was the LEC Rookie of the Year. Sears and classmate second baseman Cal Parrillo were eached named All-American by D3baseball.com and All-New England by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings.
Holbrook and the Anchormen battled through tremendous adversity during the 2020-21 campaign due to Covid-19 and posted a 23-11 overall record and a 12-4 (second place tie) mark in the Little East. RIC won two games in the conference championship before bowing out to the eventual champion (Southern Maine). Six members of the team were named to the 2021 All-Little East Squad. Senior third baseman Ray Zincone and junior closer Shaun Gamelin were named All-New England by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings.
In 2020, Holbrook led the Anchormen to a 7-1 overall record before the season was cut short due to the Coronavirus.
In his first season at the helm in 2019, Holbrook led the Anchormen to a 26-16 overall record and third place finish in the Little East Conference. The 2019 Anchormen tied the program record for wins (26). Junior Mike Webb broke the single season program record for strikeouts (100). Sophomore Jake Rockefeller broke the single season program record for appearances (25). Junior Josh Silva broke the single season program record for stolen bases (30). Webb was named an All-American by D3baseball.com. Webb and junior Nate Vigeant were named All-New England by D3baseball.com, the NEIBA and ABCA/Rawlings. Webb, Vigeant and Tyler Walsh earned All-Little East Conference honors.
Holbrook spent five seasons as an assistant coach with the Wheaton College baseball program from 2014-2018 where he was responsible for the development of all pitchers on the staff and served as the program's recruiting coordinator. In 2017, Wheaton advanced to the College World Series for the third time since 2006. In 2016, Wheaton won the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament championship. The Lyons went on to compete in the 2016 NCAA New England Regional Championship as the No. 1 seed.
The 2016 Wheaton pitching staff had the second lowest WHIP in the country at 1.16, had two All-New England Pitchers and one All-American closer who led the nation in saves at (13). In his five seasons at Wheaton, Holbrook coached 21 All-Conference players, 10 All-New England players and two All-Americans.
Over his four-year career playing in a Wheaton uniform, Holbrook helped the Lyons to a 139-45 record, four NEWMAC regular season titles and tournament championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and a second place finish in the 2012 College World Series. Holbrook ranks inside the top-10 in several pitching categories for the Lyons. He is first overall in earned run average (ERA) at 2.32. Holbrook also ranks second in wins (26), is tied for third in innings pitched (255.2), fourth in shutouts (three) and sixth in complete games (six). In 2012, Holbrook posted a 10-0 record with a 1.38 ERA, which are both school records for a single season.
Holbrook also hauled in several individual awards including two NEIBA All-New England second team selections, one NEIBA All-New England third team honor, a D3baseball.com All-New England second team nod, one D3baseball.com All-New England third team selection and three NEWMAC All-Conference first team honors. In 2013, Holbrook received the Chad Yowell Athlete Award as Wheaton’s top male athlete of the year.
Holbrook served as the Newport Gulls' head coach in the summer of 2022. In the summer of 2013, Holbrook served as an assistant coach with the Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) after pitching for the NECBL champion Gulls in 2012.
Holbrook is a native of Middletown, R.I. and graduated from the Portsmouth Abbey School in 2008. At the Abbey, Holbrook was a three-sport varsity athlete in football, hockey and baseball. He was named All-State by the Providence Journal in baseball during his senior year. He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Wheaton College in 2013.
Holbrook is currently enrolled at Boston College where he is pursuing his master’s of science in sports administration.
