Dartmouth, Mass.--Freshmen Wenona Alexander (Warwick, RI) had a pair of top-10 finishes to lead the way for the Rhode Island College women's swimming team as the Anchorwomen competed at the 2018 Louise Goodrum Invitational, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.
There was no team scoring at the event that featured some of the top swimming programs from throughout New England.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Alexander placed seventh in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.70)and the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.89) and also had the third leg of the 11th place 200-yard medley relay squad (2:13.26).
• Freshman Athena Sampalis (West Greenwich, RI) took ninth place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:21.57), 12th in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.52), finished in 18th place in the 100-yard IM (1:13.77) and was in 27th place in the 50-yard freestyle (29.10). She also had the second leg of the 11th place 200-yard medley relay (2:13.26).
• Senior Madison Lane (Barrington, RI) recorded a 19th place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (6:49.51), was 28th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:23.39), placed 29th in the 50-yard backstroke (37.43) and was 53rd in the 50-yard freestyle. Lane also swam the lead leg of the 11th place 200-yard medley relay (2:13.26).
• Freshman Mary McBride (Rumford, RI) notched a 29th place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:07.02) and had the anchor leg of the 11th place 200-yard medley relay (2:13.26).
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Nov. 10 (1 p.m.).
