Women's Tennis Opens Little East Play With, 7-2, Win at Plymouth State

Plymouth, N.H.—Rhode Island College opened Little East play with a convincing, 7-2, win at Plymouth State in women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.

• The RIC duo comprised of sophomores Serena Bobola (Cranston, RI) and Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, RI) defeated PSU sophomores Jenna Sundquist (Monument Beach, MA) and Kerstin Venincasa (Sutton, MA), 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.

• RIC sophomores Grace Zangari (Saunderstown, RI) and Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, RI) defeated PSU seniors Irene Kigugu (Concord, NH) and Megan Wheeler (Manchester, NH), 8-4, at No. 2 doubles.

• PSU sophomores Sage Winter (New Castle, NH) and Maggie McCarthy (Marion, MA) defeated the RIC tandem of senior Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI) and sophomore Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, RI), 8-5, at No. 1 doubles.

• Braganca rebounded to best Sundquist (6-1, 6-1) at No. 4 singles. Ten Eyck defeated Wheeler (6-3, 6-1) at No. 6 singles.

• Bobola clinched the win for the second consecutive match by downing Kigugu (6-1, 6-0) at No. 3 singles. Raskob followed by defeating Venincasa (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5 singles.

• Sophomore Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, MA) defeated Maggie McCarthy in three sets (6-2, 2-6, 6-0) at No. 2 singles. Winter picked up the host's final point of the day with a win (6-4, 6-4) against Zangari at No. 1 singles.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Salve Regina on Monday, Sept. 10 (3:30 p.m.).
