HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• RIC freshman pitcher
Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) and SRU freshman pitcher
Alex Kelly (East Meadow, N.Y.) hurled seven scoreless innings, resulting in an extra frame to decide a victor.
Â
• In the top of the eighth inning, with the bases loaded and one away, junior third baseman
Cassidy Schoen (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly into right field to break the scoreless deadlock and give the Anchorwomen a 1-0 lead. Kelly would punchout the next two RIC batters to end the inning.
Â
• The Seahawks quickly loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning. With one out in the frame, freshman outfielder
Katie Ramos (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) hit a ground ball that could have ended the game, but a throwing error allowed two runs to score and Salve took game one in walk-off fashion.
Â
• Kidd suffered the loss (1-2), despite a very good day in the circle with an eight-strikeout performance.
Â
• Kelly picked up her sixth win of the year (6-1) while striking out seven.
Â
GAME TWO
• RIC jumped on the board in the first inning, thanks to a double by Kazen and a sacrifice fly from sophomore first baseman
Katelyn Ashe (Colchester, Conn.).
Â
• Salve Regina would add a run in the third, fourth, and sixth innings to give the Seahawks a 3-2 lead going into the final frame.
Â
• In the seventh inning, junior second baseman
Alexis LeBelle (Warwick, R.I.) drove in a run to keep RIC's hopes alive. The Anchorwomen were unable to drive in the go-ahead run and the game went into the bottom of the seventh tied, 3-3.
Â
• In the home half of the seventh, Ramos played the hero again, drawing a walk with the bases loaded to secure the sweep for the hosts.
Â
• Kidd and Kelly both finished game two in relief, with Kidd getting the loss (1-3) after pitching three innings and Kelly pitching 4.2 innings of one-run ball to earn her second victory of the day (7-1).
Â
• Kazen went 2-for-7 with two doubles and an RBI on the afternoon.
Â
• Sophomore center fielder
Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.) hit .500 (4-for-8) for the Anchorwomen in the leadoff spot.
