Spartans Clip Anchorwomen in Little East Championship Opener

Willimantic, Conn.—Freshman left fielder Sophia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) went 2-for-3 as No. 5-seeded Rhode Island College lost, 2-0, vs. No. 4-seeded Castleton in game one of the 2023 Little East Softball Championship hosted by Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Spartans scored both of their runs in the second inning, which was highlighted by an RBI double from freshman right fielder Alexandra Brouillette  (Highgate, Vt.).
 
• RIC sophomore pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) took the loss (11-8), allowing just two runs on six hits to go along with 10 strikeouts, in six innings of work.
 
• The Anchorwomen put runners on second and third with two down in the fourth, but were not able to bring across the tying runs.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play an elimination game vs. the loser of No. 6 UMass Boston and No. 3 Southern Maine (3 p.m.) in game three of the Little East Championship later this afternoon (6 p.m.).
