RIC Raises Win Streak to Eight in Twinbill Sweep at Salve Regina

Newport, R.I.—Sophomore second basemen Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and four RBI as the Rhode Island College defeated Salve Regina, 10-1 (five innings), in the second game of a doubleheader played at Toppa Field on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen got roaring early with a five-run explosion in the second inning, which included a three-run double by senior center fielder Avery Katz (Brookfield, Conn.).
 
• Simmons' three-run bomb in the top of the fifth inning put RIC ahead by nine, 10-1, and enacted the eight-run rule.
 
• Junior pitcher Taylor Babcock (East Providence, R.I.) hurled four innings, allowing just a single run in the victory (4-0).
 
• Katz went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and three RBI. Junior shortstop Amanda Conti (Lincoln, R.I.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, three runs scored, one double, one triple and an RBI.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at doubleheader at Roger Williams on Wednesday, March 27 (3 p.m.).
