Anchorwomen Battle First Place Eastern Connecticut to Scoreless Draw in Regular Season Finale

Willimantic, Conn.--Freshman goalkeeper Oceanna Orlandi (East Greenwich, R.I.) made seven saves and earned the shutout as Rhode Island College tied Eastern Connecticut, 0-0, in the regular season finale for both clubs at Rick McCarthy Field on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Coming out of the break with both teams knotted at zero, the Warriors made Orlandi make a crucial save in the 51st minute to keep the game scoreless.
 
• The Warriors came up with a corner kick in the 86th minute and had a blue-chip scoring chance on the ensuing scrum. Junior forward Amber Almeida (Sturbridge, Mass.) was waiting on the back post to block the scoring bid get the ball out of play.
 
• The hosts outshot the Anchorwomen, 9-4, in the second half, however, the visitors stood their ground with a veteran defense and held on for the draw.
 
• Orlandi made seven saves in her fifth clean sheet (7-6-1) of the season.
 
• Senior forward Tayshia Cary (Wakefield, R.I.) led the club with four shots.
 
• The two teams battled to a scoreless tie for the second straight season.

In upcoming action, No. 5-seeded Rhode Island College will play at No. 4-seeded Western Connecticut in first round action of the 2025 Little East Championship on Saturday, Nov. 1 (5:30 p.m.)..
