Anchorwomen Down Cougars in Extra Innings, 6-5

Winter Haven, Fla.—Fifth-year third baseman Victoria Young (Sterling, Conn.) went 3-for-3 with a run scored, a double, one walk and two RBI, while senior shortstop Amanda Conti (Lincoln, R.I.) knocked in the winning run as Rhode Island College defeated Kean, 6-5 (nine innings) on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC got on the board in the top of the first when junior second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) walked and eventually scored on a throwing error.
 
• Kean evened the game in the bottom of the first a took the lead with a two-run third.
 
• The Anchorwomen put four runs across in the top of the fourth, paced by a two-run double by Young and two Kean miscues.
 
• The hosts evened the game in the fifth and the game remained deadlocked until the top of the ninth when Conti brought in senior right fielder Sarah Mickelson (New Milford, Conn.) with an RBI single.
 
• Senior pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) picked up the win (1-1), allowing just two hits, while striking out two, in four innings of work out of the bullpen.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will face Washington (Md.) on Monday, March 10 (6 p.m.).
