Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) went a combined 4-for-6 with a homer and three RBI as Rhode Island College swept Salve Regina (8-0; 4-3), in a doubleheader played at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• A junior center fielder
Sophia Crudale (Cranston, R.I.) got the offense started with a sacrifice fly to center to give RIC a 1-0 advantage in the third inning.

• Simmons nailed a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth as the Anchorwomen would go on to tally six runs in the frame.
Â
• She would also hit a two-run triple to cap off the inning as the Anchorwomen would take the first game in five innings due to the eight-run rule.
• Senior pitcher
Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) threw five scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and striking out seven, to earn the win (6-2).

GAME TWO
• The Seahawks struck first in the opening frame as a single to left field made the score, 1-0, in favor of the visitors.

• However, sophomore designated player
Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) answered back with a two-run home run off the left field scoreboard to give RIC a, 2-1, lead in the home half of the first.

• The Anchorwomen would cash in on a sophomore catcher
Brianna Bailey (Windsor, Conn.) Â double down the left field line in the fourth inning to put the hosts up by two, 4-2.

• The Seahawks blasted a two-out solo homer and then stranded in the top of the seventh before the Anchorwomen sealed the win.

• Senior right fielder
Sarah Mickelson (New Milford, Conn.) and fifth-year third baseman
Victoria Young (Sterling, Conn.) each turned in great defensive efforts.
• Sophomore reliever
Ashleigh von der Linden (Stratham, N.H.) recorded the win (5-3) as she allowed just one hit and rung up seven in five innings of work.
