Simmons and Kidd Lead Anchorwomen in Split With Roger Williams

Providence, R.I.--Junior second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) went a combined 3-for-6 with a pair of triples and three RBI as Rhode Island College split a non-conference doubleheader vs. Roger Williams at the Dayna A. Bazar Sports Complex on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• RIC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on senior right fielder Sarah Mickelson's (New Milford, Conn.) sacrifice fly.
 
• The hosts increased their lead to six, 6-0, with a five-run fourth inning, which was highlighted by  Mickelson and Simmons RBI singles.
 
• Simmons ended the game via the eight-run rule with a two-run triple, her second three-bagger of the game, in the home half of the fifth.
 
• Senior pitcher Abby Kidd (Granby, Conn.) allowed just three hits and struck out a trio of Hawks in her ninth win (9-8) of the season.
 
• Simmons went 3-for-4 with a run scored, three RBI and two triples in the win.
 
GAME TWO
• The Hawks started with the first run of the game on an RBI double in the fourth inning.
 
• RIC answered right back in the bottom half of the fourth as fifth-year third baseman Victoria Young (Sterling, Conn.) tripled in a run. Freshman first baseman Jillian Guilfoyle (Derby, Conn.) then gave the Anchorwomen the lead with a sacrifice fly.
 
• RWU posted a three-run fifth frame, paced by a pair of sacrifice flies, to retake the lead by a pair of runs, 4-2.
 
• Sophomore right fielder Sydney Duclos (North Providence, R.I.) tied the contest back up, 4-4, with a two-run double in the home half of the fifth.
 
• A grand slam and an RBI single by the visitors in the sixth put the contest out of reach.

• Sophomore reliever Ashleigh von der Linden (Stratham, N.H.) suffered the loss (8-8).
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will close out the 2025 season with a doubleheader vs. VTSU Castleton at the Dayna A. Bazar Softball Complex on Saturday, May 3 (1 p.m.).
