Softball Wraps Up Fifth Seed in Upcoming 2026 Little East Championship With Split at Plymouth State

Norton, Mass.—Senior second baseman Noelle Simmons (Goffstown, N.H.) went a combined 3-for-7 with four RBI and three runs scored to help Rhode Island College split a doubleheader vs. Plymouth State in the regular season finale for both clubs at D&M Park on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
• The hosts started the game off with a single run in the bottom of the first, but it was Simmons for the visitors who notched an inside the park homer in the third, which gave RIC a 2-1 lead through three.
 
• The visitors tied it up the next half inning, but junior left fielder Olivia Brett (Sewell, N.J.) put the Anchorwomen out in front, 3-2, with a base hit RBI in the top of the fourth.
 
• PSU had the final say as the hosts tied it in the fifth, 3-3, then walked RIC off in the seventh stanza to snag game one.

• Junior pitcher Ashleigh von der Linden (Stratham, N.H.) took the loss (3-4) in relief.
 
GAME TWO
• Sophomore shortstop Joey Meyer (South Milwaukee, Wis.) put the visitors out in front, 1-0, with an RBI single in the first.
 
• The visitors matched the score, 1-1, with a sacrifice fly in the third, but the Anchorwomen took the lead in the top of the fourth and held on for the rest of the game.
 
• Simmons and junior designated player Melanie Earley (Lumberton, N.J.) each notched one insurance RBI in the sixth stanza, helping the RIC lead grow to six, 7-1.

• Senior pitcher Gabby Cunha (Cranston, R.I.) struck out a pair in five innings  to earn the win (7-7) as the game was called early due to rain.
 
• Junior right fielder Sydney Duclos (North Providence, R.I.) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a triple on the day.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, No. 5-seeded Rhode Island College will face No. 4-seeded Eastern Connecticut in game one of the 2026 Little East Softball Championship on Wednesday, May 6 at tournament host VTSU Castleton.
