Worcester, Mass.-Senior guard Keyshawn Jacobs (Lynn, Mass.) scored 20 points as the Rhode Island College men's basketball team suffered their first setback of the 2021-22 season with an 81-63 loss at Worcester State on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchormen and Lancers battled back and forth throughout the first half until the 2:38 mark when Lancer senior guard Corey Olivier (Maynard, Mass.) connected on a jump shot that gave the hosts their first 10-point lead, 37-27.Â

• A Jacobs' jumper at the buzzer cut Worcester State's lead down to just four points, 39-35, going into the half.

• With 8:56 remaining in regulation, Jacobs hit a huge three-pointer to trim the lead down to just two points, 59-57. However, Worcester State would hold RIC to just four points in the remainder of the contest, and outscored the Anchormen, 22-4, over that stretch.

• Jacobs contributed a game-high 20 points, which included a perfect 7-for-7 effort from the free throw line. He also had a pair of rebounds and two assists.

• Junior guard Shion Darby (Peekskill, N.Y.) scored 17 points and dished out a team-high five dimes.Â

• Sophomore center Ousmane Kourouma (Woonsocket, R.I.) pulled down a game-leading 13 rebounds.

• WSU sophomore forward Ryan Rubenskas (Bridgewater, Mass.) was the Lancers leading sorcerer with 16 points. He also contributed four rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

• Lancer graduate guard Chris Cardoso (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) flirted with a triple double, scoring 15 points, pulling down six boards and handed out a game-high nine assists.Â

• RIC shot 30 percent (21-for-69) from the field, 14 percent (3-for-22) from three-point distance and an impressive 89 percent (16-for-18) from the charity stripe.

• WSU hit 54 percent (33-for-61) from the field, 50 percent (11-for-22) from downtown and 60 percent (6-for-10) from the free throw line.

• The Lancer saw all five starters reach double digits in scoring.Â
• Jacobs hit the only three -pointers for RIC. He was 3-for-12, while the rest of the team combined shot 0-for-10
