Murphy Continues 1,000-Kill Chase in, 3-0, Loss vs. Eastern Connecticut

Providence, R.I.--Senior outside hitter Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass.) earned a team-high 11 kills as the Rhode Island College women's volleyball team was defeated by Little East opponent Eastern Connecticut, 3-0, at the Murray Center on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Eastern would hold a large advantage in the beginning of the first set, but RIC would storm back to cut the deficit down to one, 19-18. The Warriors would then pull away, winning the first set by five, 25-20.
 
• The Warriors would take the momentum they built at the end of the first set and carry it over to the rest of the match, quickly dismissing RIC, 25-17, and, 25-14, over the final two stanzas.
 
• ECSU senior setter Meg Verizzi (Lebanon, Conn.) picked up her 33rd assist of the match early in the third frame, giving her 2,000 for her career.
 
• Murphy had another double-digit kill effort, bringing her 1,000-kill chase down to 29 with seven matches remaining.
 
• Eastern senior middle hitter Anna Barry (Andover, Conn.) registered a match-high 12 kills and hit .417 on the night.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at home vs. Southern Maine on Saturday, Oct. 15 (noon).
