Boston, Mass.--Senior outside hitter
Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished with eight kills and 10 digs as the Rhode Island College women's volleyball team was defeated by UMass Boston, 3-0, in Little East action on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC and UMB were evenly matched in the first set, being tied as late as, 17-17. UMB went ahead by four points, 24-20, then RIC mounted a comeback attempt that fell short, 25-23.

• The Beacons shut down the Anchorwomen in the second stanza, taking that frame by 10, 25-15. With the score tied, 4-4, UMB went on a big run to go up by eight, 13-5, and never looked back.

• In the final set, UMB stormed out to a six-point, 8-2, advantage out of the gate. RIC was able to battle back to tie the game at 17-17. Both teams would go back and forth until the Beacons pulled ahead by two, 23-20.

• The Anchorwomen were able to briefly take the lead, 25-24. However, thanks to the help of UMB sophomore libero
Toni Guerra (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and her two service aces, the Beacons were able to close out the stanza and the match, 27-25.

Rhiannon Hodovanec (Feeding Hills, Mass.) registered a team-high nine kills, with sophomore setter
Natalie Reid (North Attleboro, Mass.) leading the way with 17 assists.

• UMB senior outside hitter
McKayla Geraghty (Elgin, Ill.) tied for the match-high with nine kills and freshman setter
Amelia Devlin (West Chester, Penn.) handed out a match-high 22 assists.
