Anchorwomen Power Past Bard, 3-2, to Cap 2023 Campaign

Danbury, Conn.—Freshman outside hitter Sarina Marines (Cranston, R.I.) hit .322 and knocked down 22 kills as Rhode Island College ended the 2023 season with a 3-2 win vs. Bard at a tri-match hosted by Western Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The two teams traded wins through the first four sets, with the Anchorwomen winning (25-10, 25-20) in the first and third frames, respectively.
 
• Bard staved off the loss with a 25-20 victory in the fourth stanza.
 
• In the decisive final set, RIC went ahead, 7-6, on a Bard service error and then outscored the Raptors, 8-3, down the stretch to secure the five-set win.
 
• Five Anchorwomen registered double digits in digs, led by junior outside hitter Rhiannon Hodovanec (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and junior libero Nicole Normandin (Blackstone, Mass.), who each racked up 25.
 
• Freshman setter Yuleisy Alvelo (Springfield, Mass.) handed out 43 assists. Hodovanec notched 12 kills. Marines contributed seven digs.
