Springfield, Mass.--Sophomore Ben Lockwood (Saunderstown, R.I.) finished first as part of the distance medley relay (11:48.0) as the Rhode Island College men's track and field team opened the indoor portion of their schedule with a third place (six teams) finish at the Springfield Season Opener on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
• Rhode Island College finished third (six teams) with a team score of 73.0. Springfield won the meet with a score of 214.50. The Anchormen finished one spot ahead of Div. II Saint Rose.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Lockwood also finished second in the mile (4:45.52) and seventh in the 1,000m (2:46.28).
 
• Freshman Will Schiller (Smithfield, R.I.) finished first as part of the distance medley relay (11:48.0).
 
• Sophomore Juan Reyes (Providence, R.I.) finished first in the distance medley relay (11:48.0) and third in the 600m (1:30.28).
 
• Freshman Andrew Frezza (Johnston, R.I.) finished first in the distance medley relay (11:48.0) and sixth in the 1,000m (2:46.0).
 
• Freshman Enrique Edjang (Providence, R.I.) finished second in the weight throw (15.46m).
 
• Sophomore Shamus Culhane (North Kingstown, R.I.) finished third in the weight throw (15.39m).
 
• Sophomore Jaden Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) finished fourth in the long jump (6.25m), fifth in the high jump (1.80m) and sixth in the triple jump (12.34m).
 
• Junior Garrett Jones (Beacon Falls, Conn.) finished fifth in the long jump (6.23m) and fifth in the triple jump (12.57m).
 
• Sophomore Brandon Mota (West Warwick, R.I.) finished fifth in the weight throw (13.64m).
 
• Senior Christopher McCarthy (Cranston, R.I.) finished seventh in the weight throw (13.42m).
 
• Freshman Giovanni Alves (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished seventh in the 600m (1:36.98).
 
• Freshman Adrian Kawreh (Providence, R.I.) finished eighth in the 600m (1:37.77).
 
• Freshman Alexander Pinheiro (Warwick, R.I.) finished eighth in the 200m (23.84) and 11^th in the 60m (7.25).
 
• Freshman Hussein Niyonkuru (Providence, R.I.) finished ninth in the 600m (1:38.74).
 
• Freshman Gabriel Dosunmu (Providence, R.I.) finished ninth in the long jump (6.03m) and 11^th in the 200m (24.28).
 
• Freshman Trevor Morgan (Smithfield, R.I.) finished ninth in the weight throw (13.03m) and 13^th in the shot (9.95m).
 
• Freshman Kensley Cadet (Providence, R.I.) finished 12^th in the 1,000m (3:06.05).
 
• Sophomore Isiah Briggs (Providence, R.I.) finished 15^th in both the 200m (24.52) and the long jump (5.74m).
 
• Freshman Shane Marshall (Newport, R.I.) finished 18^th in the shot (9.23m).
 
• Freshman Antonello Lucchetti (Cranston, R.I.) finished 25^th in the 200m (25.61) and 29^th in the 60m (7.84).
