HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Pirates scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning. A sacrifice fly by freshman second baseman
Tres Organ (Houston, Texas) and a RIC throwing error put Southwestern on top by a pair.
Â
• In the top of the third, RIC junior center fielder
Cameron Santerre (Bristol, R.I.) got on base via a walk, then went on to steal second and third base. Classmate third baseman
Cal Parrillo (Greenville, R.I.) roped a single into right field to drive in RIC's first run of the season.Â
Â
• Senior left fielder
Joey Coro (North Providence, R.I.) opened the seventh inning with a single and a stolen base. After a walk, freshman second baseman
Lucas McElroy (Westport, Mass.) drove in Coro after reaching on an error to knot the game, 2-2.
Â
• Santerre would add another run after a sacrifice fly that scored junior utility man
Justin Wardwell (Westport, Mass.), who came in as a pinch runner, to give the Anchormen the lead, 3-2.
Â
• In the ninth inning, McElroy drove in an insurance run, this time scoring junior catcher
David Iannuccilli (Johnston, R.I.) from second with a double.
Â
• Parrillo went 2-for-3 with an RBI. McElroy also notched an RBI in his collegiate debut, while Santerre swiped four bags.
Â

Â
• Gamelin was outstanding on the mound, getting a win (1-0) in his first career start for the Anchormen. He punched out 10 batters, while only allowing two runs on two hits.
Â
• Junior pitcher
Terry Murray (Norfolk, Mass.) came on in the eighth inning, closing the door and earned a six-out save (1).
