Johnson & Wales (7-7)
Rhode Island College (11-7)
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Wildcats were able to pick up a pair of runs in the top of the second inning thanks to a few JWU hits in the frame. RIC grabbed a run back in the bottom of the inning then tied the game in the third thanks to an RBI single by freshman second baseman
Lucas McElroy (Westport, Mass.)
• In the fifth inning, junior center fielder
Cameron Santerre (Bristol, R.I.) unloaded on a pitch into the trees in left field for his first homer of the year, which gave RIC the lead, 3-2.
• After JWU tied the game up in the sixth, Coro answered with a solo shot of his own to regain the lead, 4-3.
• The Wildcats kept clawing, however, notching two runs in the seventh inning and then another one off of a bomb by junior right fielder
Thorin Sanchez-Guerra (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). The visitors led, 8-6, going into the bottom of the eighth.
• Junior designated hitter
Cole Podedworny (Wakefield, R.I.) singled in a run in the eighth, but the Anchormen left the bases loaded, still down a run.
• With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, down by one run, junior third baseman
Cal Parrillo (Greenville, R.I.) sent a line drive over the left field fence to tie the game up, 6-6.
• In the top of the 10th inning, Wildcats junior shortstop
Riley Hasson (South Portland, Maine) hit a homer over the fence for what proved to be the game-winning run. The Anchormen had runners on first and second with one down in the bottom of the frame, but could not bring the equalizer home.
• Coro knocked in two on the day. Santerre and Parrillo each homered and scored two runs.
