Coro and Gamelin Power RIC Past Beacons, 12-1

Boston, Mass.--Senior left fielder Joey Coro (North Providence, R.I.) knocked in three runs, while senior pitcher Shaun Gamelin (West Kingston, R.I.) hurled a five-hit gem, as Rhode Island College defeated UMass Boston, 12-1, in game one of a Little East baseball doubleheader played at Monan Park on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC scored at least one run in each of the first four innings to build a 6-0 lead. Senior designated hitter Cole Podedworny (Wakefield, R.I.) knocked in two with a single in the fourth frame.
 
•  The visitors put the game away with a six-run ninth inning, paced by a junior center fielder Cameron Santerre's (Bristol, R.I.) two-run single.
 
• Gamelin hurled a complete game, allowing one run on five hits to go along with five strikeouts, to earn his seventh (7-1) win.
 
• Coro went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBI and a walk. Podedworny went 3-for-5 with a run scored and a pair of RBI.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play game two of its twinbill with the Beacons (7 p.m.).
