Anchorwomen Power Past Blazers, 3-0

Providence, R.I.--Freshman outside hitter Sarina Marines (Cranston, R.I.) recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs as the Rhode Island College women's volleyball team stopped a four-game losing skid with a 3-0 win over Elms at The Murray Center on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The two teams started off by trading 5-0 runs to kick off an evenly-matched first set. A kill by sophomore middle blocker Sydnee Pires (Rochester, Mass.) pushed the Anchorwomen to a 25-18 win.
 
• Freshman setter Yuleisy Alvelo (Springfield, Mass.) put up a service ace and a kill in the second frame to lead RIC to a 25-21 victory and give the hosts a 2-0 advantage.
 
• The Anchorwomen soared in the third stanza, taking a comfortable 20-6 lead. Kills by sophomore middle blocker Andrayah Williams (North Providence, R.I.) and classmate right side hitter Olivia Miranda (Tiverton, R.I.) propelled RIC to a 25-14 win to take the match in straight sets.
 
• Pires matched her career-high in kills with nine.
 
• Freshman defensive specialist Marina Colonis (Waterford, Conn.) tallied 13 digs in the victory.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East play at home vs. Castleton on Saturday, Sept. 23 (11 a.m.).
