Fitchburg, Mass.—Junior middle hitter
Andrayah Williams (North Providence, R.I.) registered a career-best 11 kills and hit .556 as Rhode Island College opened the 2024 season with a 3-1 win at Fitchburg State on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The hosts took the first set by four, 25-21, but the Anchorwomen responded by taking the next two frames (25-22, 25-19). It went to extra play, but RIC held off the Falcons, 26-24, in the fourth set to secure the win.
• Sophomore outside hitter
Sarina Marines (Cranston, R.I.) led the way with 22 kills and 18 digs for a double-double effort.
• Sophomore defensive specialist
Carolyn Bailey (Ipswich, Mass.) posted a match-best 32 digs, which was also a career-high. Sophomore outside hitter
Marina Colonis (Waterford, Conn.) chipped in with 20 digs and four kills.
• Junior middle hitter
Sydnee Pires (Rochester, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter
Olivia Rollinson (Coventry, R.I.) each registered seven winners on the day.
