Providence, R.I.--The Department of Athletics at Rhode Island College, led by the efforts of its student-athletes and staff, raised funds to purchase over 40 $25 grocery gift cards to help less fortunate this holiday season.  

The cards, which were purchased through the department's corporate sponsor Dave's Fresh Marketplace, were distributed to area organizations, including churches and groups supporting those less fortunate. The majority were delivered to groups within the college's footprint, but there were some distributed all the way down to the south county area.  

Director of Athletics Don Tencher applauded the efforts of student-athletes and staff to help others, while dealing with many of their own issues this time of year and said he was extremely grateful.
